There comes some consolation for Woodward-Granger baseball despite the Hawks’ season being cut short. On top of the WCAC being represented in the title game by champ Van Meter and Des Moines Christian (which lost to WG twice), the Hawks also boast seven players on the all-district list after placing five the previous two seasons.

District voting involves only performance in district competition. Below are highlights from each selection’s 2020 season.

Bryce Achenbach - Sr. (1st Team / OF)

A member of the second-team Academic All-State list, the senior outfielder was a true base carver this season with a 17 stolen bases, three of which came in a two-hit performance against West Central Valley.

Alex Bice - Sr. (1st / P)

On the first-team list the second year in a row, Bice led the starters with a 1.15 ERA. His 107 pitches against Des Moines Christian were a team-high as he helped notch the win with eight strikeouts.

Reese Jamison - Sr. (1st / SS)

Landing on the first-team Academic All-State list and a selection for the coach’s all-star game, Jamison’s .521 batting average ranked 25th in Iowa and was the only Hawk to log a four-hit game.

Colby Tague - Jr. (1st / Utility)

Batting behind two on-base machines, Tague drove in 21 runs for the Hawks this season. That ranked 43rd among ever junior in the state this season.

Caden Easter - Sr. (2nd / P)

Easter was an absolute phenom. Not only did he have the only two double-digit strikeout games for W-G, his .49 WHIP ranked second in the entire state among pitchers with at least 15 innings.

Worth Henry - Jr. (2nd / OF)

Ranked second on the team with 18 RBI, Henry put himself on the line more than any other player this season as he led the way with four sacrifice flies. Two came in a 13-0 win against Chariton to drive in three runs without a hit.

Brandon Worley - Sr. (2nd / P)

Not only did he pitch a complete game against Pella Christian, Worley was also the only Hawks pitcher to go into extra innings with a 7.2 inning performance against Des Moines Christian. Both games contributed to his school record 21 career wins.

Jack Grell - Sr. (N/A)

Though he missed out on district honors, Grell was named to the 2nd team Academic All-State list.
