The night started off in the right direction for Perry softball (4-21), taking a 1-0 lead off a Lydia Olejniczak homer at Ballard (23-8) on Thursday, June 27. But after the Bombers responded with two runs in the second inning, the night began to veer off course as the Jayettes fell 9-2 in the road matchup.

Scoring at least one run each inning the rest of the night, Class 4A No. 9 Ballard ran to a 9-2 win over Perry.

Switching between pitchers Maggie McCrady and Hailey Walzer, the only number they didn’t seem to have was Olejniczak. After her team-leading fourth round-tripper of the season, she singled in the top of the third and worked her way to her second run of the night.

Her two hits made up two-thirds of Perry’s hits on the night with pitcher Jayna Kenney grabbing a single immediately after Olejniczak’s home run. Three more batters were walked but were left stranded.

Kenney pitched six innings, allowing nine runs (six earned) on nine hits and four walks, striking out one in the process.

Perry will continue its four-game road trip with a visit to Carroll (16-9) on Monday.
