Perry comes out of first dual meet 2-1

Wrestling season is officially underway and Perry got to host the first varsity dual of this season on Thursday, Nov. 29. Gilbert, Roland Story, and Kuemper Catholic wrestlers took on Perry and gave the Bluejays a 2-1 evening. Gilbert defeated Perry overall 42-36, while Perry defeated the other two teams with a score of 57-24 over Kuemper Catholic and 51-28 over Roland Story.

Christian Chavez (126) was the first to take the mat, but was pinned by his Gilbert opponent followed by Jacob Nelson (132) who decisioned his Gilbert opponent 5-1. Wilbur Ramirez (145) got the first pinfall win of the evening against Gilbert before Erick Funez (160) won by decision over Justin Adolphson from Gilbert 6-4. Carson Johnson from Gilbert defeated Quinn Helmers (170), 182: Aiden Carr got a pinfall win over Cole Snyder (182), Jacob Steenhoek got a pinfall win over Rylee Ray (195), and Cayden Meskan got a pinfall win over Zach Darr (220).

Against Kuemper Catholic, Chavez, Nelson, Funez, and Helmers each got pinfall wins, while Kaleb Olejniczak (138) and Justin Stammer (152) each won by forfeit. Snyder decisioned his opponent 12-9.

Olejniczak won for the third time that night by forfeit against Roland Story, and Stammer won by decision over his Roland Story opponent. Helmers got another pinfall win, and Snyder’s opponent forfeited.

Next up, Perry will travel to Harlan for a varsity invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1.
