WG Wrestling wins first dual meet giving Smeltzer 100 career wins

Woodward-Granger Wrestling started the new season off with a bang as they came home on Tuesday night 2-0. The Hawks gained dual team victories over North Polk and South Hamilton on Nov. 27. As a result of the wins, Head Coach Dave Smeltzer gained his 100th career dual win and Gabe Yingst got his 100th career victory as well.

W-G beat out South Hamilton 66-15. North Polk stats were unavailable. Joel Harney (106) and Aidan Honkomp (113) were the first two to get pinfall wins against South Hamilton before Dilynn Lewistons opponent decisioned him 9-3. The pinfall wins continued with Matthew White (126), Colt Palmer (132), and Jayden Dorenkamp (138).

Joebe Nevins (152) and Nathaniel Rosen (195) were each pinned by their opponents before the rest of the Hawks took home their pinfall wins. Gabe Yingst (160), Cale Pritchett (170), Kade Polich (182), Cody Fisher (220), and Tyler Lawrenson (285) each contributed to the overall victory for the Hawks.

W-G is at home for the first time this year on Saturday, Dec. 1 for a tournament where they will host Colfax-Mingo, Coon Rapids Bayard, Martensdale-St Mary’s, Roland-Story, Southeast Warren, and West Des Moines Valley.
