Despite starting out the season 0-1 the Jayette Basketball Team still came out strong and with great skill as they took on Des Moines North on Friday, Nov. 16. The road game ended up going into overtime only after Perry managed to catch up to their opponent late in the game. With a score of 50 all, the Jayettes eventually lost 54-52.

While Perry trailed most of the game, the margin never fell below 11 points for the team. The first quarter saw a score of 13-7 in favor of Des Moines North and that lead continued with a halftime score of 30-21. As the host put up more baskets, so did the Jayettes which left them with a score of 38-29 going into the fourth quarter.

Jayna Kenney was one to help this team along in this intense game as she put the Jayettes ahead momentarily at a 52-50 score. Molly Lutmer was the lead scorer in Friday night’s match up with a total of 28 points coming from her while Gabby West put up nine for her team. Quinn Whiton and Kenney each successfully added six points to their side of the scoreboard and Ainsley Marburger added three.

For the second game of the season, Perry will be at home to take on Newton on Tuesday, Nov. 20 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
