Perry swimmers hold their own against Newton and Oskaloosa
Perry swimmers made the road trip to the YMCA at Newton on Tuesday, Sept. 25 to compete against both Newton(NCMP) and Oskaloosa. Perry scored 46 to Oskaloosa’s 40 and scored 20 to NCMP’s 78.
Head Coach Jean Dowd said this particular meet was different and left the team with some interesting results.
“The times from this meet can’t be compared because the pool (at the Newton YMCA) is in meters,” said Dowd. “High school swimming is usually held in a yard pool. Therefore, the times needed to be converted to yards for comparison.”
Three Jayettes came out of the meet with personal best times in individual events. Avery Miner came in fourth to Newton and third to Oskaloosa in the 50 Free to gain her personal best (35.75). Amanda Holwegner and Dannah Karolus achieved their personal best times in the 100 Freestyle. Holwegner (1:15.79) came in fourth to Newton and third to Oskaloosa while Dannah Karolus (1:08.24) finished first against both Newton and Oskaloosa.
The 200 Medley Relay team of Abby Herman, Amanda Holwegner, Avery Miner, and Dannah Karolus finished third to Newton and second to Oskaloosa and finished third to Newton and first to Oskaloosa in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
