W-G falls for the first time this season to Van Meter

The Woodward-Granger football team was at Van Meter High School on Friday, Sept. 14. The Hawks fell to the former state champions 41-0.

Keith Braunschweig had eight pass attempts with three of those being completed to Bryce Achenbach for a total of 43 yards.

The Hawks were not lacking in carries as Tate Lettow had the opportunity to run the ball 19 different times to total 138 yards. Cade Polich rushed nine times for 31 yards, Gabe Yingst went eight for 37, Braunschweig rushed four for 38 yards, and Achenbach had one rush attempt for two yards.

On the defensive side of the game, W-G saw Yingst sack once with 13.5 tackles while Achenbach had eight total tackles and once interception that went for four yards. Reese Jamison and Jackson Newland each contributed six and a half tackles each.

After the first loss of their season, the Hawks will take on Interstate 35 on Friday, Sept. 21 at home. The Roadrunners are undefeated so far this season as they head into this District 7 game.
