Perry Summer Swim Team dominates multiple categories and sets records at IWSC Conference Meet

The Perry Summer Swim Team recently finished their season 8-1 overall. The impressive talent across the team led Perry to tie for first with Guthrie Center for the dual meet season.

Perry swimmers had success throughout the entire season, but came out with especially impressive statistics after the recent conference swim meet.

Zoe Hibbert, Quin Mahler-Moreno, Sophia McDevitt and Lilly Rilery placed first in the medley relays among the 11-12 year old girls group while Garret Winey, Samual Ridnour, Isaac Noble and Marcus Nelsen took home third place in the same category among the 13-14 boys group. Drew Storey, Andrew Dowd, Elijah Noble and Ethan Winey also placed first in the medley relays in the 15-18 boys group.

The freestyle races saw success from Isabelle Powell in the 8-and-under group as she placed third in the 25 yard free, while Isaac Winey placed second in the boys 25 yard free. Among the 11-12 girls group Mahler-Moreno placed second for her 50 yard freestyle and Jaylene Karolus placed third in the 13-14 girls group for her 50 yard freestyle. Dannah Krolus cleaned up the 50 yard freestyle category by taking home third place in the 15-18 girls group. As for the boys group, Isaac Noble received third place in the 13-14 50 yard freestyle and Ethan Winey placed third in the 15-18 boys 50 yard freestyle.

Powell showed up to dominate again in the 8-and-under 25 yard backstroke and came out with second place, while Isaac Winey came out with first place in the same category among the 8-and-under boys group. Madeline Devitt placed third in the 9-10 girls group and Sophia McDevitt placed first in the 11-12 50 yard backstroke. Garret Winey was able to walk away with first place in the 11-12 boys group for his 50 yard backstroke and Karolus placed third for hers among the 13-14 girls group. Drew Storey finished off the category with a third place finish in the 15-18 50 yard backstroke.

The 100 individual medley saw success from McDevitt, who won first place, and Karolus, who won third place.

In the 25 yard breaststroke, Sarah Prombo won first among the 8-and-under girls category and Kane Mahler-Moreno won first in the 9-10 boys category. Quin Mahler-Moreno took home first in the 50 yard breaststroke in the 11-12 girls category.

Powell gained yet another award by finishing third in the 8-and-under girls long freestyle while Isaac Winey finished second. McDevitt finished second in her age division, Garret and Ethan Winey each finished third in their respective age groups and Noble took home second place in his age division.

Garret Winey placed second in the butterfly category while Jaylene and Dannah Karolus each placed third for the same category in their age groups.

Mahler-Moreno, Hibbert, Riley, and McDevitt won first place in the freestyle relay, Joel Storey, Samual Ridnour, Marcus Nelsen, Isaac Noble won second place, and Storey, Noble, Dowd, Winey won first in their age group.

The Perry 11-12 girls team and 15-18 boys team won both their medley and freestyle races and the 11-12 girls ended the season having broke records and remained undefeated all year.

The final overall score the Perry Summer Swim Team received at this years IWSC Conference Meet was 214.

Perry Summer Swim Team Board Vice President AnneMarie McDevitt says the entire team had a wonderful season from her perspective as well as others.

McDevitt also says those wanting to participate in the local swim teams should watch for the Perry Area Winter Swim Team registration being released towards the end of this October or early November.
