Woodward-Granger baseball sweeps CAM at home on senior night
Woodward-Granger took on CAM High School, of Anita, this past Monday, July 2 on their home field. The Hawks ended up defeating the Cougars in what was a slow-starting and fast-finishing game, 6-1.
Head Coach for the Hawks Eric Evans says he is happy with the way Jay Dorenkamp performed.
“He did very well being 6-0 as a sophomore and his ERA is under .5,” said Coach Evans. “[Dorenkamp’s] ERA is a school record that Cole Theisen set last year and we never thought that would be beat.”
The game started with Dorenkamp pitching and proved to be successful the rest of the way through. Dorenkamp was able to get the win in five and one third innings with no earned runs, three strikeouts and two walks.
Alex Bice took over the mound the rest of the game and came out with three strikeouts, no walks, no earned runs and only one hit.
The offensive side of the Hawks game saw success all over the roster.
The first inning proved to be in the Cougars favor as they scored their only run of the game, while the Hawks did not score until the second. Once they did, it was all success stories from there.
Cole Theisen, Nick Brummond, Brandon Worley and Reese Jamison each contributed one run to the final score while Jack Grell had the game high of two runs.
There were two RBIs on Bryce Achenbach’s part and Brummond and Grell had one RBI each.
The Hawks are now 17-8 overall and played their next game on Thursday, July 5 against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont at Principal Park in Des Moines.
