Olejniczak 750 career strike-outs freezes Polar Bears
On June 28 the Perry Jayettes (19-11), led by Emma Olejniczak’s career 750 strike-outs, earned a 12-0 home victory over the Des Moines North Polar Bears (0-32).
Olejniczak tossed a complete game five inning one hitter, fanning nine, allowing zero walks for her 17th win of the season.
After a scoreless first, the Jayettes opened up the second inning with six runs that was followed by another run in the third.
Offensively, Jayette Rachel Kinney led the team with a 3 for 3 night, which included an inside the park home run. She finished with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Sidney Vancil got in on the action with with two RBIs on a 2 for 4 performance. Maddie West contributed a double with three RBIs. Alyssa Kruger also drove in three runs and Brooke Huntington finished with two RBIs.
The home team closed out the game early in the bottom of the fourth with five more runs to send the Polar Bears into hibernation.
Perry’s Head coach Tina Kinney congratulated their team and praised their ability to overcome Monday’s tough loss and focus on the next task.
“Every time we play we have a chance to win or learn, and we take the losses as a way to continue to grow as players and as a team,” she said.
On Wednesday the team heads to Bondurant-Farrar to face off against Lady Jays and a chance to steal a conference win before the start of the postseason.
“We know the level of competition that we will face in our conference and we stay focused on the prize, which is to be in the best possible scenario to continue playing at the end of the season,” Kinney said.
