Softball: Hawks dominate doubleheader

The Woodward Granger Hawks (19-6) offense shelled the host West Central Valley Wildcats (2-17) in their doubleheader match in Stuart.

On June 23, the Hawks put on a hitting display that ended with 37 combined runs versus the Wildcats. In game one, the road team wasted no time in making their presence known.

They opened up the first inning with three runs and followed it up with two in the second, five in the third, one in the fourth and closed out the contest in the fifth inning with eight runs.

Riley Jamison, Miranda Aunspach and Kaycee Major led the team with three hits a piece on a combined 12 at bats. They drove in seven runs with Major and Aunspach crossing the plate twice.

Dalaney Bice and Carli Major each contributed three RBIs. Bice along with Maggi Mallon connected on two hits including a homerun by Bice and Mallon scoring three times. Anna Tague scored a team high four runs.

Meagan Bandstra, Kendra Husmann, Carli Major and Katelyn Bandstra each had a hit.

Jamison pitched all five innings and kept the Wildcats off balance. She gave up three hits, struck-out two and walked one in the 19-0 win.

In game two, the Hawks-who played as the home team- followed up their previous performance with a three inning 18-0 victory.

Jamison continued her dominant performance with another shutout win. She struck-out two, and allowed five hits. Bice smashed her second run of the night after a 2 for 3 outing that included a game high three RBIs.

Aunspach, Meagan, Mallon, Husmann, Kaycee, Carli and Kayley Dresback had a hit a piece. Mallon was second on the team with three RBIs and Husmann drove in two.

The Hawks put the game away in the first after exploding for 18 runs, which the Wildcats couldn’t recover from.

The team travels to Clear Creek Amana for a two day varsity tournament starting June 24.
