Jayettes fall to Toreadors
A first inning one run lead for the Perry Jayettes (15-10, 3-8) turned into a two run deficit who ultimately fell 4-1 to the host Boone Toreadors (18-7, 6-4).
The Jayettes opened up the game with a run when Sidney Vancil singled with one out and then put herself in scoring position after stealing second base. An out later, Vancil crossed home plate on teammate Rachel Kinney’s single.
That would be all the team’s offense managed as the Toreadors scored twice in the third for the 2-1 lead and then scored two more times in the sixth for the eventual conference victory.
Jayette pitcher Emma Olejniczak got the nod. She lasted all six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one.
Olejniczak also had a double in the fourth inning that left her stranded after Boone got out of the inning unscathed. The loss gave the Toreadors the two game conference sweep.
The Jayettes are back on the mound on June 25 when they travel to Decorah for a varsity tournament hosted by Waukon High School.
