The Woodward-Granger Hawks (12-7) swooped in on the West Central Valley Jaguars (5-17) with a double header sweep.

On June 23, the Hawks traveled to Stuart in a long afternoon contest that saw the road team combine for 17 runs and allow just seven runs for the non-conference win.

In game one, the visiting Hawks got on the board early with three runs in the second and two more in the third and fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, the home team Jaguars cut the lead with a score, which lasted until the top of the seventh when the Hawks added another three runs for the 8-2 victory.

W-G’s starting pitcher Brady Aunspach picked up his third win this season after allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking-out three and walking four.

Brandon Worley came in relief in the seventh. He didn’t allow a hit and struck-out one.

At the plate, Reese Jamison and Nick Brummond finished with two hits each. Brummond had a team high two RBIs. Jamison along with Marcus McConahay, Matt Buch, Austin Scharlau and Cole Theisen combined for five RBIs.

It was a closer contest in game two as the Hawks- playing as the home team- needed a sixth run bottom of the fifth to overcome a 4-2 deficit and snatched the 9-5 win.

The Jaguars struck first with five runs in their first two innings for the 5-2 lead. The home team finished off the contest with a run in the sixth.

Buch started the contest but lasted just 1 1/3 innings. He allowed five earned runs off four hits with a walk and a strike-out.

Relief pitcher Worley received the win after tossing over five innings, allowing four hits, walking two and fanning three.

Brummond followed his earlier performance with a 3 for 4 evening. He scored a run, brought home another and sole a base.

Both Jamison and Theisen each had two hits. They combined for three runs and two RBIs. Race Brant, Aunspach, McConahay and Mitch Knuth each finished with a hit. Aunspach and Knuth drove in two runs.

The team will look to continue their winning ways on Monday against the visiting Madrid Tigers.
