At the June 22 baseball game, the Perry Bluejays (7-14, 4-5) gave their head coach his 700th win with a 14-3 trouncing of the the host Carroll Tigers.

Head coach Mike Long has spent his entire coaching career with the Bluejays and as proud as he was with the accomplishment, his focus remained more on his players and less on his historic narrative.

“I couldn’t have coached in a better school system and I’m so lucky to have coached the greatest kids in the state of Iowa,” he said. “That probably makes me feel the proudest.”

He went on to say that most coaches go to a bigger or what they think is better school and he’s done it with the kids he’s had here.

The victory was extra special as Mike’s grandson, Alex Long, got the starting nod. Alex not only earned his second win but was instrumental in his grandfather’s milestone. He tossed five innings, allowing just three runs.

The visitors jumped on the home team early with a run in the first, five in the second, four in the third and closed out the game early after adding another four runs in the fifth.

Perry drew four walks, went down swinging once and tuned up 12 hits against both Tigers’ pitchers.

Statistics and game logs will updated as it becomes available.
