Lions take a bite out of Hawks

For the second time in five days the Woodward-Granger Hawks (10-7, 9-5) were defeated by the Des Moines Christian Lions (14-6, 8-3) in a 10-0 ballgame that gave the Lions theseason sweep.

The host Lions jumped on the Hawks with runs in the first five innings. The home team opened up the game with a run in the first, four in the second, two in the third,one in the fourth and finished it of with two in the fifth.

W-G’s starting pitcher, Jackson Larson received the loss after tossing just two innings where he gave up five runs- four earned- off four hits and walking two.

In the bottom of the third, Reese Jamison came in relief. He pitched two innings, gave up four earned runs off four hits and walked three.

At the plate the Hawks mustered a combined two hits from Race Brant and Austin Scharlau. Brant and teammate Cole Theisen drew the Hawks two walks.

The team will travel to Stuart on June 23 for a doubleheader against the West Central Valley Wildcats.
