Softball: Hawks sweep tournament foes

The Woodward-Granger Hawks (15-5) completed a 2-0 sweep against the visiting Eagles and Panthers at the Phil Creese Classic.

On June 18 the Hawks extended their winning streak to five games after two close wins.

In their game against the Saydel Eagles ( 13-6) the Hawks held the road team scoreless and their two runs were just enough for the 2-0 victory.

Pitcher Dalaney Bice tossed the complete game shutout with two strike-outs, three walks and no runs off four hits. She also led the team with a 2 for 3 performance a run scored, a homerun, a triple and an RBI.

Bree Lesch, Meagan Bandstra, Carli and Kaycee Major each had a hit. Lesch had the team’s other RBI when she drove in Katelyn Bandstra.

The host’s second win came against the Pekin Panthers (6-11). It was a another close affair as the Hawks gave up three runs but managed six of their own for the 6-3 win.

In the win, W-G’s Riley Jamison tossed six innings gave up three runs- one earned- off nine hits with no walks and two strike-outs. Bice replaced Jamison in the seventh. She struck-out one and allowed no hits.

Once again Bice led the team in hits with three. She scored a run and drove in four with a double and a homerun. Jamison finished with two RBIs after a 2 for four afternoon.

Meagan and Maggi Mallon had two hits a piece while Kaycee, Carli and Kayley Dresback combined for the team’s other three hits.

Tonight, the Hawks will look to extend their winning streak when they welcome conference rival the Ogden Bulldogs.
