Jayettes finish 2-1 at tourney

Jayettes combined for 22 runs on 35 hits and finished 2-1 at the Hawks weekend tournament.

The Perry Jayettes(8-6, 2-5) traveled to Woodward-Granger on June 10, to participate in this season’s two-day softball varsity tournament.

In game one the Jayettes muzzled the Ogden Bulldogs (5-9) 9-3 with a 17 hit performance.

Perry’s Emma Olejniczak fanned 11 batters, walked three, allowed three runs- zero earned-on two hits.

The Bulldogs got on the board first after two Perry errors that led to two runs in the first and the Ogden lead. Perry tied the game in the bottom half with two runs.

Another Perry error gave the Bulldogs the lead at 3-2. After a scoreless second, the Jayettes scored seven runs in the final six innings to capture the win.

Jayettes Sidney Vancil led the team at the plate with a perfect 4-4 performance. She finished with two RBIs on three doubles and a single. Victoria Hegstrom followed with 3 for 4 afternoon with two RBIs.

Other notable hitters:

Rachel Kinney went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Johanna Diw was 2 for 4 with a double. Brooke Huntington had a single with two RBIs. Maddie West went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Maddy Jans had a single.

The Madrid Tigers (3-9) halted the Jayettes celebration with a 6-4 victory in game two.

Vancil got the start and in five innings struck out five, walked one and was 2 for 3 at the plate with a double.

The Tigers scored one run in the first. Perry added four runs in the fourth for the three run lead. Madrid scored five in the last two innings to take the victory.

Kruger went 1 for 3 with a stolen base. Kinney was 1 for 3 with a three run homer. Jans and Olejniczak each had a double, and West finished with a triple.

Perry got back on track against the Lynx of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln HS (4-1) with a dominating 9-0 win.

Olejniczak got the start and tossed all six innings, striking-out 15 and not allowing a score or a walk on two hits. At the plate, she finished with a single.

The Jayettes touched home in four of their five innings. They scored two in the first, one in the second, four in the fourth and added two in the fifth for the victory.

Jans went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Kinney was 2 for 3 with a two run homer and a stolen base. Diw and Huntington contributed two hits each. Hegstrom and Vancil each finished with a hit.

Up next on June 14, the Jayettes host the Gilbert Tigers.
