In Perry, the Jayettes softball team dominated the visiting Lady Jays, 5-0, with stellar pitcher and an offensive explosion.

It didn’t take long for the host Perry Jayettes (7-5, 2-4) to control the flow of the game against their fellow avian the Bondurant-Farrar Lady Jays (5-9, 0-5).

Emma Olejniczak earned her seventh win as she took command early, giving up a single hit and fanning eight in three innings of work. For the game, she surrendered no runs on three hits, striking-out 14 and walking 2.

“Emma kept them [Lady Jays] off balance and the defense stepped up to make plays when needed,” Perry’s head coach Tina Kenney said.

In the second inning, the Jayettes went to work when Rachel Kinney singled and a Brooke Huntington’s sacrifice bunt advanced Kinney.

A Maddy Jans pop-up out sent Johanna Diw to the plate. She smacked a two-run homer to center field, which broke the tied score at 2-0.

The home team was at it again in the fourth when Alyssa Kruger drew a walk and Kinney reached on an error.

Victoria Hegstrom executed a push bunt through the right side to score Kruger and moved Kinney to third. A Sidney Vancil sacrifice fly allowed Kinney to cross the plate for a 4-0 lead.

Perry extended their lead to five runs when Huntington singled in the fifth and then trotted her to third after a Maddie West sacrifice bunt. Huntington reached home when Olejniczak connected with an RBI single.

As a team the Jayettes’ five runs came off nine hits. On the field their defense played perfect committing zero errors.

Kenney was proud of what she saw with her team’s execution.

“We made early adjustments to their pitcher’s speed to get us ahead and had solid aggressive defense to keep us ahead,” she said.

The win put Perry two games over .500 and a second straight victory. They travel to Ballard on June 9th, to take on the Bombers.
