Ballards’ fifth inning bombs Bluejays

A hopeful conclusion turned tragic when the Bombers’ eight run fifth inning halted the Bluejays chances for the win in the 19-12 loss.

On June 9, the Perry Bluejays (4-9, 2-4) traveled to Ballard to take on the Bombers (8-2, 3-1).

The game was close through the first four innings with the Bluejays only down by two runs, 8-6. In the top of the fifth, the road team closed the deficit to a mere run at 8-7.

Ballard quickly countered with eight runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a commanding 16-7 lead.

Once again the Bluejays answered the call with a five run sixth that brought them to within four at 16-12.

The Bombers killed any hope for a comeback with three more runs for the seven run lead.

The Bluejays will look to bounce back on June 11-12 when they travel to Atlantic to participate in the varsity tournament.
