The Jayettes defense was unable to subdue the Titans offense as their season and state hopes came to an end in a 9-0 loss.

At Council Bluffs, the Perry Jayettes (10-7) couldn’t muster any offense in Monday’s final sub-state contest against the Lewis Central Titans (13-3).

The Titans scored early and often with three unanswered goals in the opening three minutes.

Jayettes’ offense was unable to counter with the team’s leading scorer, Natalie Martinez, who was kept in check all game.

This season Martinez led the Raccoon River Conference in goals with 30 in 13 of the 17 games. She’s proud of what the team accomplished this season after all the hard work they put in, she said.

“I feel extremely proud of myself about breaking the school record because I didn’t think I would make so many goals,” Martinez said. “I knew if I tried really hard I could do it.”

Teammate Sydney Guerra finished in the top 10 with 13 goals after tailing just 10 last season.

The 10 wins for Perry was a four game improvement from last season.
