A scoreless game quickly turned when the visiting Hawks tagged the home Blazers for seven runs for a 14-4 non-conference victory.

It was a quick contest for the W-G Hawks (2-1, 2-0) who on Wednesday, June 1, visited the winless Iowa Christian Blazers (0-2).

In the second inning the Hawks belted numerous runs to take a 7-0 lead. Leading the way were W-G’s Race Brant and Brady Aunspach who finished the game with a team high three hits a piece.

An inning later, the road team increased their lead by two at 9-0. The Blazers responded in the bottom of the third and fourth innings with a combined four runs to cut the deficit to six, at 10-4.

It was all the home team could muster. The Hawks added four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to go up 14-4 and close out the game in six.

The trio of Marcus McConahay, Matt Buch and Austin Scharlau combined for six hits on 10 at bats. Teammates Reese Jamison, Colt Palmer, Jordan Pierce and Jacskon Larson each contributed a hit.

Defensively, the Hawks committed two errors. Pitcher Austin Ober started the contest allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

The team doesn’t take the field until June 4, when they host several teams in the Varsity Tournament.
