Bluejays soar to first win of the season

After four straight losses to start the season, the Bluejays soared to victory by overwhelmingly beating the Tigers 15-4.

At home on Wednesday, June 1, the Perry Bluejays (1-4, 1-0) took on conference foe the Carroll Tigers (0-3).

The home team got on the board first with two runs in the first and another four in the second for a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Bluejays tagged the Tigers for six more runs and increased their lead to 12-0.

Carroll responded with a four run fourth inning to cut the deficit to eight. The host team crossed the plate three more times to go up 15-4 and close out the game.

Bluejay Janier Puente led the team with four RBI’s. He finished 2-3 with a double and the team’s only homerun.

Teammates Kyle Nevitt, Adan Medina and Brandon Kenyon tied Puente with two hits each. Nevitt drove in three runs and scored once.

Kade VanKirk, Austin Carpenter and Alexis Garrido each contributed a hit. Carpenter finished third on the team in RBI’s with two.

Starting pitcher Alex Long earned the win after holding the Tigers to four runs- two earned- on one hit. He tossed four innings, struckout six and walked four.

Next up the team will host another conference foe the Boone Toreadors this Thursday.
