Bluejays look to swing back to .500
So far this season the Perry Bluejays are off to a slow start with four consecutive losses.
A team that last year barely finished above .500 and had a losing record in the RRC Conference, will have to come together in order to achieve the overall goal.
“With our tough non-conference schedule, [I’d like to] finish above .500 and finish in the top three of our conference,” head coach Mike Long said.
The 40-year veteran, who also splits his duties as the Jayettes head basketball coach, said he will look to his upperclassmen to guide his younger players.
“I don’t have captains, I want all my upperclassmen to be leaders,” Long said.
Asked to shoulder that responsibility are seniors Alex Long and Kade VanKirk, along with juniors Adan Medina, Kyle Nevitt and Janier Puente.
Mike feels that with his players’ tutelage there is no reason the Bluejays can’t rectify the season.
A couple of key things to look for in our team are our overall speed and experienced pitching staff, the coach said.
The team will look to turn things around this Friday, June 3, when they travel to Adel to take on conference rival the ADM Tigers.
