Did You Know… most Iowa towns have a town square, Perry has a triangle. The photo shows the Triangle, the original library and the Hotel Pattee in the background in 1950. In September 1904, the library opened on the Triangle. Some people thought the Triangle should be home to the yet unselected Dallas County seat and courthouse. Other people wanted the Triangle to be home to a new Perry City Hall, but the library won out. I love all the cars shown in this photo. The Triangle was once the center of happenings in Perry but with the railroad located on north 2nd street, businesses moved further north on 2nd street, making it the main street in Perry. It is nice to see the new restaurants and stores in Perry’s downtown area. Remember we must support the local businesses if we want them to stay and for other new ones to join our community.
