Health and Wellness… Habitat for Humanity

Building homes, communities, and hope. That’s the slogan for Habitat for Humanity. Habitat has major plans for home repair projects this summer in several Dallas County communities, in a program called Rock the Block.

Rock the Block focuses on several different categories of housing services, including home preservation, critical home repair, weatherization, helping residents age in place, and neighborhood improvements.

To qualify for this assistance, you must be within the income guidelines. This is an owner-occupied program, so the person who owns/is buying the house must live there full-time. There is also a “sweat equity” requirement, meaning the owner must contribute some time and effort to the project, in a capacity that is within that owner’s abilities. After a complete home assessment, Habitat for Humanity will determine how much, if any, repayment will be required.

The dates for Rock the Block are as follows: Waukee June 3-4; Adel June 21-25; Redfield Aug. 11-13; Dallas Center Aug. 25-27; Perry Sept. 21-24.

Rock the Block requires many volunteers to do the actual work. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring this project, or want to apply for repairs, contact Omar Padilla at opadilla@dallascountyhabitat.org or 515-238-5785.
