Sweet Success: Diaz, Hulgan each get a pie in the face to benefit fireworks drive

The results came down to the wire and two pies ended up being thrown during the Big Boom Bracket Battle Final Showdown.

JP Hulgan and Eddie Diaz were the final two left standing from the Big Boom Bracket Battle. Donations came in right up until noon on Friday, July 3. A last-minute donation evened the score at $1,065 for Hulgan and Diaz.

Both ended up having pies thrown in their face during a live-streamed event at Fareway. All proceeds from the Big Boom Bracket Battle went to the Perry Chamber of Commerce’s annual fireworks drive.

Donations are still needed to help the Perry Chamber reach its goal of $12,500 for the Fourth of July fireworks display. Results stood at $10,949 as of 12:30 p.m. on July 3.

Online donations can be made at https://perry-chamber.square.site. Community members can also round up at the register. The grocery store round-ups at Fareway and Hy-Vee will continue through Saturday, July 4.
