Perry Fine Arts committee cancels Fourth of July concert because of COVID-19 concerns

Submitted to The Chief

It is with deep regret that the members of the Fine Arts committee have decided not to sponsor a concert on the Fourth of July this year.

Like you, we enjoy the celebratory nature of these concerts and feel that it will leave a hole in the activities of that day. Because it is several weeks out from the Fourth, we are having to make a decision about the concert without the benefit of knowing how risky it will be for people to be in public gatherings at that time. But given the projections for the prevalence of the COVID-19 disease in Iowa, we are choosing to take the most cautious action and not sponsor an event that could be risky for people to attend.

This is often one of our best-attended events and we regret that we feel the need to cancel it. We apologize to our patrons as we had planned to sponsor the concert when we asked for your financial support. We hope that you will continue to support the Fine Arts concerts with your contributions and attendance in the future. In the meantime, please be safe.
