The second annual Bluejay Readers = Bluejay Leaders was held on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Perry Elementary School.
Community members, City of Perry officials, members of the Perry School Board and representatives from various organizations took time out of their day to read with Perry third grade students.
Around 30 volunteers read to groups of four or five students in classrooms and in the elementary hallways on Nov. 13.
Each student received a free book, “When Walt Disney Rode a Pig,” after the volunteers read to them and listened to them read. The books were donated by United Way of Central Iowa. The program was sponsored through Everybody Wins! Iowa.
