Local HCI Hospice Care Services volunteer honored
Jefferson resident Linda Ross, along with more than 40 other volunteers from across the state were recognized for their contributions at Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa’s annual honored volunteer ceremony recently.
As a volunteer with HCI Hospice Care Services, Ross provides support, companionship and hope to those facing life-limiting illnesses.
“When I think of a competent, confident volunteer who is able to assist at a moment’s notice, I think of Linda,” said Hannah Sedlacek, volunteer coordinator for HCI Hospice Care Services. “She dives head on into assignments with compassion and confidence.”
Ross began volunteering with HCI Hospice Care Services in 2012 wanting to give back after a loved one received hospice care. Each week, Ross visits patients, making sure they don’t need anything before the weekend. Additionally, she has the privilege of interviewing patients to record their life’s stories.
“I find it rewarding to be a listening ear,” Ross said. “One of my favorite moments as a volunteer has been being able to bring laughter to a patient or caregiver.”
Ross notes that volunteering is contagious. In fact, she also generously donate her time to the Greene County Congregate Meals and Early Learning Center.
HCI Hospice Care Services is seeking more volunteers like Ross. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact Hannah Sedlacek at 515-333-5810 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
