Hispanics United for Perry has rescheduled the annual ¡Viva Perry! Latino Festival for 12-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30. The celebration will be held in the parking lot west of the Perry Performing Arts Center at Perry High School.

¡Viva Perry! will be held in conjunction with the Hometown Heritage “Becoming American” film series showing of the documentary, “Welcome to Shelbyville.” There will be kids activities throughout the afternoon. Los Laureles, the children’s folkloric dance troop from Perry, will be showcased during the event, along with the Reina de la Festival, or Queen of the Festival competition. HUP will also hand out its annual award for community support.

Sponsors for this year’s festival include Perry Chamber of Commerce, the Perry Chief, Perry Public Library, Raccoon Valley Bank, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Iowa State University Extension, Tyson, Osmundson, Dallas County Hospital, Wiese Industries, Mid-Iowa Family Therapy Clinic, theperrynews.com, Progressive Foundry, Hulgan Plumbing and Heating, Hastings Funeral Home, JS Peters Services, Inc., Eye Care Associates P.C., Roberts-Smiley Insurance, Carris Family Funeral Home, Re/Max Pros on Main, Finneseth, Dalen and Powell Attorneys and Harland ACE Hardware.

The ¡Viva Perry! Festival is the primary fundraiser for HUP, with proceeds supporting scholarships for graduating seniors and continuing education. We count on the support of the Perry Community in our efforts. If you’d like to make a contribution to the HUP scholarships, please send contributions earmarked for HUP to Daniel Rivera at Raccoon Valley Bank: 1202 2nd Street, 50220.

Our hope is that ¡Viva Perry! will be a vibrant street festival and a wonderful opportunity to showcase hometown pride.
