New signs reminding motorists to slow down and watch for children can be found around Perry schools.

Those signs were purchased by the Perry Rotary Club and installed by Jack Butler and members of the Perry Public Works Department.

Rotarian Kevin Vidergar heard the idea of personalized signs at a Rotary event in January 2018. He brought the idea back to the Perry club and it took root.

The club purchased parts for 12 signs through member donations and proceeds from the annual dinner and auction. Vidergar said the club members came up with a design and Graphics2U put the design on the signs.

Butler and the public works crew then installed the signs around town. The signs were attached to existing posts at various locations around schools and parks.

Three signs were installed around Perry Elementary. Two went up in front of the middle school, two in front of the high school and two around St. Patrick’s Catholic School. Two more were added around the McCreary Center.

Vidergar added that the club is looking at purchasing additional signs to install around the rest of the parks and other locations in town.

“First and foremost, we want to raise awareness as folks are driving by they need to be cautious and careful because there are a lot of kids running around, especially around parks and the schools,” Vidergar said of one reason behind the sign project.

The other reason, he added, is to help get the word out about the Perry Rotary Club.

“We want to do good for the city and help make life better for everybody and this is one small way to do that,” Vidergar said of the sign project.

He said those interested is seeing what a Perry Rotary Club meeting is all about should stop by the Hotel Pattee on a Wednesday. The club meets at 12:10 p.m. in the hotel every Wednesday.
