Book Buddy meeting set for Sept. 14

Submitted to The Chief

Research shows that children who start behind, stay behind. You can make the difference. Book Buddy reaches children from low-income families in the critical year before kindergarten, helping them build the pre-reading skills they need for a strong start in school. Currently at eight locations in Des Moines, United Way of Central Iowa is bringing Book Buddy to Perry this October. Volunteers read one-on-one with preschool students using an easy-to-follow curriculum and children bring home their own copy of the featured book each week.

Join other community volunteers and leaders to learn more during a meeting from 12-1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Perry Public Library. Reservations can be made online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/C72NBYD. For more information, contact Rachel at bookbuddy@unitedwaydm.org or 515-554-1417.
