The 2016 Wall of Witnesses recipient has been chosen.

Attorney Charles I. Joy was nominated to be the Perry Historic Preservation Commission and Hometown Heritage’s Wall of Witnesses recipient.

Joy will posthumously join the other faces on the west wall Soumas Court on Willis Avenue.

Hometown Heritage and Perry Historic Preservation are planning an unveiling and a reception for Joy at a later date in the fall.

Forty nominations were received and there were two confidential votes to limit the field of applications for this award.

The Perry Historic Preservation Commission and Hometown Heritage members said they would like to thank everyone that participated in this project.

Similar to previous years, Hometown Heritage and Perry Historic Preservation Commission members will keep the nomination applications received this year to add to the applications they will receive next year.

The Wall of Witnesses recognizes those who have gone before and stand as witnesses to our care of the community.

Last year Mike Kanely was the Wall of Witnesses recipient.

Other recipients include Flora Bailey, first librarian and Betty Mae Harris, a dance teacher and choreographer.
