Arrests made following fight at local event center

A man landed a few charges following a fight at a local events center.

Douglas Rivas-Melendez, 25, of Perry, was arrested after 11:30 p.m., on May 29, at the Perry Area Christian Events center, 1000 26th St., because of a fight that started in the parking lot.

Sgt. Jerome Hill, with the Perry Police Department, said the officers found two males on the ground when they arrived to the event center.

One of the men involved in the altercation fled the scene and the other, Rivas-Melendez, became resistant towards the officers, causing minor injuries to them including scrapes and bruises, Hill said.

A Taser was deployed by the officers and Rivas-Melendez was taken into custody, Hill said. Rivas-Melendez was also taken into Dallas County Hospital to be checked for small injuries that were sustained during his initial fight, he continued.

The Perry Police Department is investigating this incident. It is not considered gang-related, Hill said.

Rivas-Melendez is charged with first-offense public intoxication, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts causing injury.

A 15-year-old and 16-year-old girl, both from Perry, are charged with minor in possession of alcohol.

Norma Alvayero, 18, of Perry, is charged with person under legal age.

The Perry Police Department was assisted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
