Eklund is Optimist of the Year
The Optimist Club of Perry announced its Outstanding Optimist winner.
Jenny Eklund, of Perry, received the Optimist of the Year award during the club’s meeting last week.
Randy McCaulley, Optimist Club president, said the award is given to Eklund because she has done so much for the club over the last year.
“It’s for someone who is really dedicated to the kids and the community,” McCaulley said. “She got it locally because she sponsored three or four new members last year, she was a driving force behind a lot of our projects we did like Spooktacular, the Chocolate Walk and she’s involved with everything we do. It was a pretty obvious choice.”
Eklund said she didn’t understand why she got the award.
“I don’t understand why I got it. I just do what I need to do to help and make the group better,” Eklund said. “It’s all for the kids that’s what I care about.”
The local Optimist Club president said Eklund stepped up and worked with the Junior Optimist Club. She planned meetings and was highly involved with Junior Optimists, McCaulley said.
The international president of the Optimist Club signed Eklund’s award.
