An internationally-known artist taught a seminar in Perry.

Iain Stewart, an artist and Auborn University professor, visited Perry and taught the seminar at La Poste on Sept. 9 for the Iowa Watercolor Society.

A dozen adults from around the state were in Perry to take part in this three-day workshop all about watercolors.

“I teach these sort of things all over the world,” Stewart said. “I do about 12 to 14 of these a year.”

Stewart said he was impressed with Perry.

“I like Perry, it’s really nice,” the artist said. “It has that small-town feel. It reminds me of where I live in Alabama. I like the humidity very much, or lack thereof.”

Jenny Eklund, one of the owners of La Poste, said she is thrilled to have Stewart in town.

“Sometimes I wonder if our community realizes how fortunate we are to have people such as Iain come to our community. Artists of this caliber,” Eklund said. “La Poste and Art on the Prairie is really setting the stage for more people such as Iain. I am absolutely shocked at the out-of-towners, out-staters, that are coming to Perry Iowa.” Stewart will also hold a workshop next Monday and Wednesday at La Poste.
