Doreen Ketchens—known as “the female Louis Armstrong”—said she found the weather cool but the reception warm as her jazz quintet heated up the Perry High School Performing Arts Center Saturday night. A crowd of about 100 heard Ketchens’ versions of many New Orleans jazz standards, including “Summertime” and “A Kiss to Build a Dream On,” in the 90-minute set. The band has played for four US Presidents and produced more than 20 CDs. The next event in the Perry Fine Arts calendar is the William Bell memorial Tuba and Euphonium Day concert on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Performing Arts Center.
