Boone rallied from a 3-0 hole to surge past Perry with a series of unearned runs en route to claiming a 6-4 Raccoon River Conference win at Progressive Field June 20.

Jeremiah Ellett was hit by a pitch and Will Whiton walked to start the bottom of the first for the Bluejays, with both racing home on a Michael Lansing double.

Perry added a run in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead, but the defense struggled to close the door, as Boone scored four runs — three unearned — in the sixth to grab a 4-2 lead.

Another Bluejay error put a runner on base in the seventh, with Brett Slight smashing a home run to add two key insurance runs.

The hosts scored once in their final at-bat but could not complete the rally in suffering the loss.

Whiton went 6-1/3 innings on the hill, allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits and four walks. He struck out five batters. Ellett recorded the final two outs for the Jays, allowing one hit in the process.

Blake Lansing and Whiton each had RBI doubles with Ben Daniels adding a base hit. Ellett, Daniels, Cavan Finn and Nic Wilhelmi each stole a base for the Jays.

Slight and Corey Fowler both had two hits for Boone, with Kendall Hilsabeck doubling home two runs in the sixth inning.

Ryan Sunstrom struck out 10 and walked two in picking up the win for Boone. He allowed four runs on five hits, with one run unearned.

The Tigers scored twice in the first, third and fourth innings before placing four runs on the board in the sixth inning.
