There’s some good news around the corner. After schools across the state have further suspended class and activities until April 30, the IHSAA and IGHSAU announced their revised spring sports schedule to help teams and students hoping their seasons can be salvaged.

At the moment, the first practice for track and field, as well as golf for Woodward-Granger can start on May 1. The season’s first competition can commence on May 4, giving just three days of official team practice.

This late start to the seasons has the postseason approaching fast with track state qualifying meets beginning May 28 for both boys and girls squads. The state meet will run June 4-6 as well.

Hawks boys golf has its eye on May 26 for the playoffs, and June 8-9 for state competition. Girls golf postseason begins May 29, and commences June 11-12 at state.

All dates are subject to change.

As of yet, any revised baseball and softball schedule has yet to be announced by the governing bodies.

Woodward-Granger activities director Matt Eichhorn said he has been in contact with coaches through Zoom meetings “trying to stay engaged” to keep teams aware of the ongoing changes and limitations to the season.

“Now is the time to keep building relationships and guiding our kids,” he added. “I just want them to stay engaged and not leave any of our kids in the cold. Coaching is more about the game of life than the game they are coaching, making sure the kids know we care about them and help them anyway we can through these times.”

Additionally, Eichhorn said he has been meeting with other AD’s from around the nation through virtual conferences, monitoring how to continue helping during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
