With one more home game for Perry volleyball remaining, the Jayettes hosted Winterset for senior night Tuesday, Oct. 8. The energy to support the team’s eldest members wasn’t enough to topple their guests as the Huskies ran away with a 3-0 sweep, leaving Perry reeling now 3-7 in its last 10 matches.

Additionally, Perry learned it faces Ballard in the first round of the Class 4A - Region 3 bracket Wednesday, Oct. 24. The winner faces Dallas Center-Grimes on the 29th.

Winterset made light work of Perry with sets of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-10, even maneuvering around Perry’s high success rate from the service line. The Jayettes boasted a 92 percent serve rate, missing only two of 25 serves.

The dagger came from Perry’s errors which included 11 from attack attempts including uncharacteristic moments from freshman Taylor Atwell and junior Jasmine Shriver. They had four and five kill errors respectively. Winterset also limited the whole team’s ability to shuffle the ball around as Perry left the three sets with a season-low four assists. In the eight matches which Perry’s played at least three sets entering Tuesday, all have had a double-digit assist total.

Being senior night, the team was sure to get their most seasoned players on the court. Magley Orellana and Mary Ann Reisberg were out for all three sets while Jasmin Olmos came in twice. Deborah Mateso and Joscelyn Olmos came in for a set apiece as well.

Perry returns back to its home court Thursday, Oct. 10 against Saydel.
