Perry might have to expand its trophy case soon.


Not even in high school yet, incoming freshman Lydia Olejniczak is already earning accolades for her talents on the diamond. She was named a conference first-team shortstop selection for her play in the Raccoon River Conference last week and on Saturday, earned a spot on the All-District team for her performance throughout the season.


Olejniczak started her career as a Jayette with a bang, setting expectations high with home run and a 2-for-3, three-run outing in the season opener against Des Moines Christian.


Batting leadoff, she led the team in a number of categories with 32 hits, 22 runs, a .405 batting average and .467 on-base percentage to go with four home runs and 11 stolen bases. In 28 games, she found the base path in 22 games.


In the field, Olejniczak was the most active fielder with 131 chances and 56 assists to lead the team. She added an additional 54 putouts and held a .840 fielding percentage.
