Woodward-Granger baseball isn’t showing any signs of slowing down this season. A 13-0 win over ACGC (0-11) on Monday, June 10, the Hawks improve to 11-0 on the year and just when it looked like all had been revealed before, they revealed yet another deadly talon to strike at any time.

Over the past two weeks, W-G has brought new firepower to the plate with Reese Jamison at the top of the order. There’s been a number of pitchers to clean up to grab a couple of saves along the way, including saving a sluggish offense against Madrid with a shutout.

Monday saw the convergence of the power at the plate and efficiency at the mound, putting all the force into one player: Bryce Achenbach.

Head coach Eric Evans has praised his bullpen all season, boasting the near-dozen pitchers he can put out at any time and expect a win. In his season pitching debut, Achenbach boosted Evans’ clout, pitching his way to a nearly flawless game.

He gave up two hits to start the first inning but the rest of the way pitched a perfect game. Achenbach finished the night with four strikeouts and no walks, producing the team’s first complete game shutout of the season.

While he was a certified stud off the rubber, he brought a consistent bat to the plate as well, finishing 3-for-4 with a stolen base and run as well. That was all backed up by the team combining for 16 hits, registering a team-best .552 batting average on the evening with seven batters grabbing at least one hit while Jack Grell and Reese Jamison led the way with three runs apiece.

Hunter Pifer, Joe Rhodes, and Trevor Simmons drove in three runs as well as the team continues to impress on the basepath without anyone hitting beyond a double. The team is still looking for its first home run of the year and is even without a triple.

Monday proved the team can keep charging forward even without putting up those flashy stats. With pitching like Achenbach still being uncovered, the Hawks are moving with deliberation and unmatched motivation.

W-G returns to action Tuesday at home meeting with Panorama which beat ACGC 12-1 last week.
