The ultimate goal each season for a golfer is to end better than you entered. While the season is not quite finished for the Jayettes, the group blazed a nice trail Monday, May 13 at Winterset.

As a group, the team placed fourth among the four competing teams behind Dallas Center-Grimes, Winterset, and Greene County. But on an individual basis, there were clear signs of improvement.

On nine holes, the deviation between all but one golfer was two strokes.

Kennedy Tunink led the way, turning in a card of 62 while MaryLou Ledesma, Jayna Kenney, and Bryce Eastman all turned in 64 for the afternoon. Macy Killmer trailed behind by only one stoke after falling behind the pack on the first hole.

Tunink dropped her lowest score by one, as did Ledesma. Everyone else was at least within reach of their season-best and fell below their front nine-hole season average.

Meanwhile at the top of the board, Lydia Steier of DCG grabbed first place swinging for 42, eight strokes behind her season-best, but enough for the afternoon title. Winterset’s Natalie Drake took second with her personal record of 45, down from 48 strokes.

Next up for Perry is the Class 3A regional tournament in Carroll on Monday, May 20.
