The Woodward-Granger girls 4x800-meter relay team could rest easy Friday night both out of exhaustion and ease of mind, with what you could say was a dash of excitement. There wouldn’t be any worry waking up Saturday to see they didn’t qualify for next week’s state tournament. They already knew they were in.
After placing second place at the qualifying event on Friday, May 10, the group comprised of Anna Tague, Ava Petersen, Josie Noland, and Emma Drake (with Bella Milosevich and Maddy as reserves) had an auto-qualifying placement to run at Drake Stadium on Thursday, May 16.
The group ran to a time of 10:15.26, good for the 21st slot among Class 2A schools.
However, that isn’t the only event that their anchor will participate in. Drake also ran to a second place mark in the open 800-meter event to auto-qualify for state.
With a time of 2:27.11, she enters at the 14th slot with a fair shot at placing if her time sheds a couple of seconds to beat her personal record of 2:25.13.
The 4x800 event will be held at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, May 16. The individual 800 is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.
