The Jayettes have fallen from grace over the past couple weeks looking back at six losses in the last seven games. With a four-game road trip scheduled, the pressure has only mounted but on Thursday, May 9, Perry reignited its season with a 4-0 win over Carroll, improving to 5-8 on the season.
That comes right on time with the announcement of the Class 2A regional brackets. Perry will play host on May 28 to the win of the matchup between Boone or Collins-Maxwell on the 23rd.
Perry has already batted Boone off its shoulder earlier in the year, taking down the Toreadors 9-0 in mid-April while leading scorer Natalie Martinez was still on the injured reserve list. That win came on the wings of a team effort spreading looks to a laundry list of underclassmen, as did C-M’s 9-1 win over Boone earlier in May.
Though the absence of Martinez has put a premium on goals scored for Perry, the experience like that against Boone has reluctantly given more experience for regionals.
Meanwhile, the Jayettes have not faced C-M yet this season but took down the Raiders 5-3 in 2018 at the tail end of the season. As a junior, Martinez had four goals that game, making for an interesting rematch as the Raiders hold a 6-3 record against Perry hoping to climb back to .500 before the regular season ends.
As part of their four-game road series, the Jayettes next set up camp at Indianola on Friday, May 10 followed by trips to Ballard and North Polk the following week.
