After the Woodward-Granger girls took the top place hosting a co-ed meeting Monday, April 8, the Hawks fell back with a third-place finish in another three-team event Tuesday, April 9. Though, not all was lost as they put forward another first-place finish on the individual leaderboard.
Coming off a top score the previous day in Woodward, senior Cierra DeHoet’s 48 strokes (+12) tied for first-place with Ballard’s Lauren Smith. Behind DeHoet, Emma Greiner (+15) finished second on the team as everyone else finished with scores higher than 15 over par.
Ballard finished at the top of the bracket with a score of 219. Only one of their reps recorded a score of 15 over par or worse, as did Greene County clocking in at 229 while W-G logged a scoresheet of 238.
It was a rough afternoon for the Hawks overall, with DeHoet and Emily Trewet as the only two not to write-in a max 10 strokes on a hole. Overall, W-G had 11 such scores between the seven total golfers.
As DeHoet was able to keep her name off that list, her top score helped her bring down her season average to 51.70, according to Quick Stats Iowa after adjusting for course rating. Senior Emily Trewet’s score also fell down a couple notches to 61.37 after her 61 strokes, as did Greiner’s improvement on a season average of 66.03 thanks to her 60 strokes.
W-G will next travel to Grimes on Thursday.
