Coach Clay Carlton earned his 100th career win against Boys Town on Friday, February 8, with a 70-34 victory.
The Knights scored a season high, 70 points, and picked up their 17th win on the season.
Right from tip-off the Knights scored when Elaina Madison tipped the ball to Macey Allgood, and Allgood scored the lay-up. Madison would get back-to-back buckets, as Libby Baumert hit a three point shot from the corner. With 12 seconds left in the first period, Emma Heng drained a three and the Knights led, 22-6.
Gina McGowen scored six total points in the second quarter. Baumert and Heng would both hit three’s, and Brianna Fulton closed out the half with a pair of free-throws, and the Knights led, 43-16, at the half.
In the second half, Ivye Meyer hit a nice base-line jumper to increase the Knights lead to, 60-20. Lourdes got a nice contribution from their bench. Elizabeth Heng made a strong move to the hoop for the score. Ruby Bruggeman scored a two point bucket followed by a long jump shot by Bayley Allgood that swished through. Gracie Ragland made a solid field goal, and the Knights went on to win, 70-34.
Baumert paved the way with 15 points; McGowen, 12; Fulton, 11; Emma Heng, 10; Madison, six; Macey Allgood, four; Elizabeth Heng, Bayley Allgood, Ragland, and Bruggeman, each added two.
Lourdes 48 Sidney 37
The Lady Knights snapped the Sidney Cowgirls 16 game winning streak with a, 48-37, win on Saturday, February 9, at Sidney.
In a game that had been postponed twice this season due to bad weather, both teams hit the floor where the Lourdes out-rebounded Sidney, 40 to 19, and held Sidney to their lowest scoring total on the season. “I think our length gave Sidney trouble,” Coach Clay Carlton said. “I thought we did a good job challenging their shots.”
Sidney entered this contest on a 16 game winning streak and a record of 19 and 1. “They (Cowgirls) have some really good athletes, and I thought we did a good job keeping them away from the foul line,” Carlton said.
Elaina Madison was a monster inside the paint by pulling in 14 rebounds and contributing nine points. Gina McGowen led the Knights in scoring with 15; Brianna Fulton and Libby Baumert, six each; Emma Heng, five; Macey Allgood, four; Jacey Kreifels, three.
Lourdes (18-4) will be @ Platteview Tuesday, February 13, for sub-district play, starting at 6:30 p.m. against Palmyra (5-15).
