After weather conditions moved the RRC Conference Cross Country Meet over a week later than originally planned, Perry runners finally got the chance to compete for post season. The Blujeays were at ADM on Thursday, Oct. 11 to compete against six other teams in both the boys and girls races. The Perry girls came out sixth overall with 135 points while the boys finished seventh as a team with 202 points.

Individually, the only Perry runner to qualify came out to be Jaylene Karolus. As a freshman, Karolus placed 10th and finished the race in 20:56.1. The next Jayette to cross the finish line at Thursday’s meet was Kailey Crawford who placed 21 in 22:51.7 followed by Molly Lutmer at 37th in 24:03.7. Kennedy Tunink finished 42nd overall with a time of 24:24.1 and Cris Gomez came in at 44th with a time of 23:03.2. Next up was Hannah Peterson who placed 49th and finished in 25:51.5 followed by Kanvshai Abdieva at 54th place in 26:2.9. The final three Jayettes to finish were Angela Hernandez, Fatima Rodriguez, and Alondra Avila.

Perry’s boys all finished within ten places of each other while all timing under 21 minutes. Mohamed Abdelnabi was the first from his team to complete the race placing 36th individually and finished in 19:22. Three runners and less than 11 seconds later, Eduardo Sanchez finished 40th with a time of 19:32.1 followed immediately by Eli Noble who placed 41st in 19:51.7. Mario Cruz came in at 42nd placed with a time of 19:53 before Ethan Miller who finished 43rd in 20:06.3. Hayden McFarland and Tomas Lopez were soon to follow at 44th and 4th place with times of 20:11.7 and 20:25.7.

Karolus has a chance to qualify for the State Cross Country Meet and will compete again on Thursday, Oct. 18. The Qualifying Meet will be held at Glenwood High School beginning at 4 p.m.
