The Perry Cross Country team hit the road for their first meet of the season in Madrid.

The girls dominated the Classic coming in first overall with 32 points. Freshman Jaylene Karolus finished first individually with a time of 22:01. Coming in sixth, seventh, and eighth places were Molly Lutmer with a time of 23:41, Kailey Crawford finishing in 24:01, and Kennedy Tunink with a time of 24:22. Cris Gomez was soon to follow in 10th place with a time of 24:56.

In 18th place was Hannah Peterson finishing in 25:41 while Angela Hernandez was the 29th runner to finish and ran in 28:12.

The Perry boys showed their strengths as well by placing third overall with a score of 92.

Mario Cruz was the first of the Bluejays to finish and came in 12th overall with a time of 18:57. Eduardo Sanchez was close behind his teammate and came in 13th finishing in 19:01.

Elijah Noble was the 16th runner to finish and came in with a time of 19:37 while Hayden McFarland was 23rd with a time of 20:04.

Two runners finishing very close together were Ethan Miller at 35th and Tomas Lopez at 36th. Miller ran in 21:19 and Lopez was at 21:30.

Tanner Burgin finished shortly after with a time of 21:46 followed by Tony Burgos at 43rd in 21:51 and Collin Malmber at 51st in 22:29.

Moving down the finisher’s list, Chase Archer finished 59th and ran in 22:55 with Jayson Chavez and Isaac Noble following soon thereafter. Chavez came in 64th with a time of 23:24 and Noble was 65th finishing in 23:32.

The Bluejay runners will attend another invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 4th in Winterset.
