The Perry softball team was not short for games the past several days as the Jayettes made their way to Pella for a tournament on Saturday before resting on Sunday in preparation for Monday nights home game against Carlisle.
The weekend tournament started with the Jayettes going up against Grinnell, but losing 12-4. Alyssa Kruger pitched the whole game, coming out with two strikeouts, only four earned runs, and two base on balls.
Jayna Kenney batted 2-for-3 while Johanna Diw batted 3-for-4, one of which was a home run that racked up three RBIs.
Sidney Vancil, Adriana Eastman, Cassidy Heck and Kruger each hit a single before game one was over.
In game two of the day Perry went up against Pella Christian. The Jayettes scored all their runs during the first five innings of the game to secure the lead, but lost in the last few innings when the Eagles scored their five runs.
Kruger took the mound for the second time that day for the first three innings to pitch four hits, no runs, no strikeouts and no base on balls.
Kenney took over for the rest of the game and pitched one earned run, four hits and two base on balls.
Gabby West batted 2-for-4 in game two with three RBIs contributing to the scoreboard. Adriana Eastman had her own RBI as well while batting 2-for-4.
On Monday, June 25 the Jayettes were back at home to play Carlisle, but fell to their opponent 6-0.
Once again, Kruger pitched for the Jayettes all seven innings and ended the game with no strikeouts, one base on balls and five earned runs. Kruger was also responsible for the only single of the game during the top of the seventh.
Perry will be at home again on Tuesday evening to take on Des Moines North beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by an away game on Wednesday against Bondurant-Farrar, also starting at 5:30 p.m.
